Why we love mini Amigurumi As a miniaturist, I am always on the lookout for the next item I can shrink – so when crochet came into my life about five years ago, it was obvious where it would end up. My first love with crochet is the art of Amigurumi; with its cute designs and simple techniques, it is a must for any beginner to try. It was not long before I decided to shrink my Amigurumi work down to what I like to call ‘minigurumi’. At first it takes a bit of patience; you also need good eyesight, good glasses or a magnifier if you feel it is needed. Your patience will pay off though, as soon as you see your little creation come to life. Originally my little characters and trinkets were designed for the dolls’ house arena, but increasingly friends and family started to ask me to make them into jewellery items and general gifts. This led me to rethink and experiment with some novelty ideas. I am not an expert in jewellery-making, so my techniques are simple and at a level that anyone can achieve. By using basic accessories, you can turn your mini Amigurumi into a perfect gift – all you need is a little bit of imagination. Now it is over to you – don’t forget the most important thing is to enjoy, relax and love what you are doing.
