The US Census Bureau puts the number of Millennials at 92 million as of 2017, making them the largest living generation in size, and also the largest generation in the workforce. From education to technology to their impact on how we manage, lead, and work within our organizations, there is no industry that has not felt a shift as a result of this Millennial force. This volume brings together the work of scholars from across disciplines to better understand the Millennial generation—the trends they are driving, the characteristics that differentiate them, and the subsequent perspectives that are creating significant shifts in how we live and work. We begin with a chapter by an introductory chapter by Gerhardt and Hebbalalu that encourages a broad shift in the way Millennials are viewed by older generations within organizations. By applying concepts from the field of workplace diversity, Millennials are framed as a source of opportunity, rather than the cause of challenges. This initial chapter sets the stage for the subsequent work in this volume by highlighting the different frames through which Millennials may be viewed.
