I
t was heartening to receive news this month from the guys at ICM that their model design
and production facilities in Ukraine are back up and running. While the terrible war and
the associated suffering continues, it’s good to know that some are able to return to more
peaceful activities. Model manufacturing, obviously, plays a tiny part in the Ukrainian
economy and in the huge efforts that will be necessary to rebuild the shattered country once
the war is over, but we can certainly play a small role in supporting Ukrainian manufacturers,
such as ICM, MiniArt, Masterbox and many others smaller firms, and buying their products. If
you haven’t done so already, I would also urge you to support the wonderful initiative by Chris
Meddings, former editor of Scale Aircraft Modelling, and buy his Models for Ukraine book, a
collection of articles featuring kits from various Ukrainian companies. All proceeds will go to the
Disasters Emergency Committee. The book has, at the time of writing, already raised some

This month’s issue sees a range of modelling topics from World War II to the present day. It’s

a great pleasure to welcome Portuguese modeller Andreia Rodrigues to these pages as she
converts Dragon’s small-scale M4 into a USMC tank on Iwo Jima. Sticking with World War II and
Braille Scale, Fernando Grannell combines Academy’s M3 halftrack and ACE Models’ 3-inch
anti-tank gun for a real ‘American All-Rounder’. Also with a World War II subject, it’s a pleasure
to welcome back Kreangkrai Paojinda who builds Tasca/Asuka’s sublime Panzer II Ausf. L.
Moving forward in time, Max Lemaire takes us through some advanced modelling techniques
to convert and detail a T-34/85 into a Serbian vehicle from the conflicts of the 1990s, while
Tomasz Janiszewski models an abandoned BRDM-2 from the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
Moving to the present day, Ralph Zwilling presents a photo essay on the recent Allied Spirit
NATO exercises in Germany in our Armour in Profile feature, while I build Panda’s M109A7.
Finally, we welcome the return of ‘Showtime’ to these pages as Erich Reits visits the recent
