In the latest “Jet Age Wings Line” volume they have turned to the MiG-19P family. This includes not only the all-weather MiG-19P, PG, PM, and PML but the licensed produced J-6A, J-6B and J-6IV from China. Those familiar with 4+ books will know what to expect, but for those who have never indulged before the make a very useful one-stop reference work for those looking at the finer details of their models.The MiG-19 was the follow-on to the highly successful MiG-15 and MiG-17, with MiG attempting to develop the design into a supersonic combat type. Ultimately less than successful, the MiG-19 still saw widespread service with both the Warsaw Pact and Soviet client states. Development history is covered in the first couple of pages, all in English. The book then goes on to provide detailed plans, in 1/72 scale, colour side profiles of a variety of schemes and extracts from technical manuals to accompany the detailed photographic walk around of a number of preserved airframes. Complementing the drawings are many rare photos of the Farmer in service, many in colour adding to their use for the modeller. With several models of the MiG-19 available up to the Trumpeter 1/32 kit, this volume with be of immense use as a reference. Although many of the schemes are natural metal, the wide variety of users will give some inspiration. Further the useful diagrams of the variety of external ordnance accompanied by a chart providing common combinations are a nice touch.
