He did his M.A. and Ph.D. in history at Michigan State University and the B.Sc. in economics at the University of Hull, England. In 1965 he qualified as a barrister-at-law at Gray’s Inn, London. He has taught at the University of Michigan-Flint, the Cipriani Labour College (Trinidad) and St. Mary’s College (Trinidad). He has been visiting professor at the University of Minnesota, Brandeis Uni­ versity and The Colorado College.
