Asapartofitsactivitiesconcernedwithwaterasacriticalresource,theUNUis continuingtoorganizeaseriesofprojectsthatworkto betweenwaterandgeopoliticsinaridand issuesindisputesconcerningwaterresources,selectalternativescenariosthatcould leadtothesolutionofthecomplexproblemsrelatedtowaterissues,andrecommend processesthroughwhichthecountriesconcernedarelikelytoagreeonmutuallysat- isfactorysolutionstotheproblems. The Middle East WaterForumheld in Cairo, Egypt, in 1993. organized by the UNU,producedanauthoritativebookonthesubject,entitledInternationalWatersof theMiddleEast:FromEuphrates-TigristoNik.Theforumprovedhighlysuccessful andcontributed,informallybutimportantly,totheprogressoftheMiddleEastpeace talks.ThepresentbookhasemergedasapartoftheUNU'scontinuingeffortsinthis fieldandisoneofaseriesofbooksrelatedtowaterissuesandconflictresolution.
