Theideabehindthebookwasbornoutofourconversationsandjointresearchandthe
resultingrecognitionthatintheotherwiserichdebateonsmartcitiesseveraltopics
requireamorethoroughinsight.Anothersetofconsiderationsthatwehadderived
fromtherecognitionthatalltoofrequentlytheideasthatresearchersandacademics
haveandframethroughtheirpublicationsdonotreachthedecisionmakers.Clearly,
agapincommunicationexistsbetweenthecommunitiesofresearchersanddecision
makers.Thisbooksoughttoaddressthisissuebymakingresearchonsmartcities
handyandunderstandabletodecisionmakers.Thereferencetoeffectivemanagement
employedinthetitleofthebookismeanttohighlightthecentralityofmanagement
