He is known to millions, and during his varied career he has been just about everywhere and met the great and the interesting of many lands. Muggeridge reveals himself en famille and at school in Croydon; at Cambridge in the early 1920s; in different parts of the world, including India, Egypt, Rus­ sia, Switzerland, and the United States; and as an intelligence officer in the Sec­ ond World War, particularly during the liberation of Paris. It was in Paris that he met P. G.
