They are also synonymous with love and romance, so as a symbol of eternal love, we think this floral pair would make a lovely wedding or anniversary gift. The best part? They can be sewn in just one evening! Beginner Friendly ellie ELEPHANT BRING LUCY WOODROW’S FLOPPY-EARED FRIEND TO ALL YOUR SUMMER PARTIES Move over teddy bear picnics, elephant adventures are the next big thing! Ellie is the perfect companion for an alfresco meal on a warm day, or even just snuggling on the sofa if the summer weather isn’t playing ball. This pattern, courtesy of Blossom and Friday, has been designed with beginner sewers in mind, helping you to easily create a treasured heirloom toy for generations of your family to enjoy. Let’s get started... ELLIE DOLL @ Find the templates in your bonus pattern pack. Cut out and mark each template onto the wrong side of the fabric. For the front and back body pieces, make sure to flip the piece to mark one as opposite. Cut out each piece, adding a seam allowance of approximately 5mm. The felt pieces do not require a seam allowance. For the cheeks, poke a hole through the paper to make a mark on the correct side of the fabric. Pin the felt circles into place, then either hand or machine stitch these onto the face. © Place the two front body pieces right sides together and sew along the front seam only, going very carefully along and around the trunk. Go over this seam twice for extra strength. Turn the trunk right side out and carefully press out the central seam. Place a small amount of stuffing into the trunk, carefully push it down the end and add another small piece. Stuff until the trunk is nearly full. Place the two back body pieces right sides together and sew up the spine only, leaving the marked gap open. © Place the arm and leg pieces right sides together and sew around, leaving the top open. Turn each arm and leg right side out. Slowly push the fabric right side out and push out the seams using a skewer or the eraser end of a pencil. Stuff the arms and the legs. Place the ear pieces right sides together and sew around the outer edge. Turn right side out, fold the open seam inside slightly and press flat. © Place the front and back body pieces right sides together and pin around the edge to align the marked lines. Sew around the body on the marked lines, leaving gaps for the armholes. Insert a safety pin into the top open end of each arm. Insert the arm, safety pin first, up through the body so that the open end comes out of the side seams of the doll. Make sure both arms are even in length and push them out towards the side seam of the doll. Pin the arms into place and sew over the gap a few times. © Turn the doll right side out and gently push out the seams around the head from the inside. Stuff the head to create a round shape. Add a little more stuffing into the trunk and stuff the head firmly to the neck. Turn the hem of the body inwards by about Icm, then press. Insert the open end of the legs into this hem and pin it into place. Make sure there is no stuffing in the area to be sewn and machine sew the legs into place. Stuff the body through the gap at the back and close the seam. Pin the ears into place so that they lie against the back of the head at the side and whip stitch into place with a coordinating thread. © Cut out the cheek guide and place onto the cheek circle. Line up the central seam line so that it is as parallel as possible with the elephant’s central seam and mark either the closed eye shape or the open eye dot using an erasable pen. Flip the piece guide to repeat on the other side. Embroider either a closed eye or open eye shape onto the face with charcoal embroidery thread. DUNGAREES © Cut out the pattern pieces, then pin onto the wrong side of your chosen fabrics and mark around the edges. Cut the pieces, adding around 5mm of seam allowance on all sides. Fold the two strap pieces in half lengthways, right side inwards. Sew along the marked sewing lines, parallel with the fold length of the piece. Trim excess fabric, turn right side out and press flat. (2) Lay one dungaree top piece right side up. Position the two straps and layer the second dungaree top piece, right side down, on the top. Pin together, ensuring the straps stay in place and sew around the sides
