OurpredecessorswerepioneeringpainterslikeHenryWardRanger,Childe
HassamandWillardMetcalf,tonameonlyafew.Theypickedthissettingto
createanddisplayimportantworksofart.Establishedin1914,theLAAhas
carriedforwardthistraditionwithanextensivearrayofartcoursesandexhi-
bitionsinabuildingnowincludedinaNationalHistoricDistrict.Itismore
importantthaneverthatwemaintainthelegacyoftheLymeArtAssociation
advancingthedifficultandstudiouscraftotrepresentationaland
impressionisticart.
PerhapsthemostimportantoutgrowthoftheAssociation’s100yeartradition,
itshistoricgallerycenterpiece,anditsmanyexhibitions,classesandworkshops
isthefosteringofavibrantartcommunity.Professionalaswellasdeveloping
artistsformtheheartoftheAssociation,whichnowboastsover1,000members.
Today,theAssociationisenergizedbyartists,patrons,andfriendswhosharean
enthusiasmforourhistoricbuildingandwhoupholdthemissionofthe
Association:toadvancethecauseoffineartthroughexhibitionandeducation.
Ourlegacycontinues...intheyearsahead,theLAAhasplanstoimprovebothitsphysicalspaceandpro-
gramming.OurhopeistorealizethetrueintentionofarchitectCharlesPlattbyrenovatingthebuilding
andrestoringthelandscapingtoreflecthisoriginaldesign.Theseimprovementswillnotonlyenhancethe
overallappearanceoftheLAAbutwillalsoaddtothebeautificationoftheLymeStreetarea.Another
goalistomeetthegrowingdemandforadditionalworkshopsandclasses.Byincreasingourstudiospace
wecanexpandoureducationalofferingstomeettheneedsofournearly1,000members.
