Compelling Floor Sessions are highlighted by the high-value premier Session on Thursday evening, followed by two Signature® Floor Sessions on Friday. Our popular Signature® Internet Session is scheduled for Sunday, February 1. More than 150 consignors will participate in this auction, with coins for almost every series and budget. The sale has a particularly strong run of high-grade quarters in both business strike and proof formats, including a premium Gem 1825/3/2 quarter (lot 3092) and a stunning 1858 pR67 NGC quarter (lot 3104, probably the finest-known example). Other highlights include: • A high-grade 1924-S Buffalo nickel in MS66 ★ NGC, with none finer at either service (lot 3053). • A 1798/97 dime, JR-2 variety, in MS61 NGC — the rarest of four varieties for the date (lot 3071). • An 1876 twenty cent piece in MS67 pCGS, razor-sharp, among the finest known (lot 3088). • An 1807 Draped Bust half graded MS66 NGC, an important early type coin (lot 3122). • Another notable early type coin, an appealing 1803 silver dollar, graded MS63 NGC (lot 3172). • The one-year-type “No Stars on Obverse” 1796 Quarter Eagle in XF40 NGC (lot 3238). • A rare 1843 quarter eagle graded pR63 Cameo NGC, one of just five proofs known (lot 3245). • A 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief twenty graded MS64 pCGS with great eye appeal (lot 3354). • A classic 1869 double eagle in proof format graded pR65 Ultra Cameo NGC, the finest of 12 known and the Lorin G. parmelee coin (lot 3349). • A remarkable 1908 double eagle in pR65, perhaps the only Roman Finish proof specimen, formerly owned by Dr. William Sturgis Bigelow (likely from Theodore Roosevelt), The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the phillip H. Morse collection (lot 3374). If you are attending the Long Beach Expo, lot viewing and the auction floor are easily available to you. We also accept bids through HA.com, e-mail, U.S. mail, and fax. The 1776 Continental dollars were issued in late 1776, and were probably intended to take the place of paper bills issued by the Continental Congress earlier in the year. Examples are known in seven different die varieties, with three different compositions. This coin was struck in pewter and features the misspelling of CURENCY and the solid lines in the reverse rings that characterize the W-8445 variety. The present coin offers lightly abraded silver and gray surfaces that retain a few hints of original mint luster. Moderate, even wear on both sides leaves all lettering legible and much interior detail intact on the design elements. Listed on page 85 of the 2015 Guide Book.
