Thecalendarsweredifferentbytendays,andtheJulianNewYearbeganin March, so that, for example, an English document dated January 3, 1667, would be January 13, 1668, under the Gregorian calendar. While account- ingforthesedifferencesinanalyzingevidence,Ihavekepttheoriginaldates whencitingdocuments.
