todevelopthatlittleextratogiveorhelpyougrowthatedge.Youwanttotapyour
potentialalittlefurther.Youwanttogrow.
Besides, both China and India are growing politically and economically, and
peoplewanttotradeanddobusinessinthesecountries.Asiaisrising,andthebook
hasbeenwrittenwiththeideathatmorepeoplewillwanttodobusinessinAsia,and
“LeadingSuccessfullyinAsia”wouldhelpthemmost.Inotherwords,tostatethe
aims of the book more explicitly, it is written, more so, for practitioners and
business managers/people. Unlike Max Weber (1947) who distinguished between
traditional,charismaticandlegal-rationalauthorityandleadership,theauthordoes
not distinguish between the different types of leadership (such as key differences
betweenpoliticalleaders,businessleadersorreligiousleaders)ashestillbelieves
that what’s critical is to distinguish successful leaders from non-successful, Tsu-
nami leaders (Low and Teo 2015), ineffective (or non) leaders, incompetents and
even sycophants, and it is hoped that readers have these in mind when reading
thebook.
Thisauthoralsobelievesthathe,beingborninAsia,trainedinAsianthoughts,
philosophies and values as well as being Western educated in post-independent
Republic of Singapore, and being a practitioner-cum-academician and because of
suchabackgroundandexperiences,isblessedandhastrulyinheritedmuchfortune!
Andwhat’smore,they’retobeshared.
Proverbs, countless insights exist in them, are usefully short and concise. And
whether old or new, they are memorable sayings based on an important fact of
experiencethatisconsideredtrue,hence,fullofwisdom,bymanypeople.Mydear
fellow readers, in this book, I have purposefully written it spiced with powerful
inspirational proverbs and quotes (life’s instructions and motivations) to spur us
on—after all, we, harbouring much untapped potential, are all diamonds in the
making.
Apart from my reliance on potent Asia and Western inspiring proverbs and
sayings, I also have based my writings on my previous journal writings and
publications as well as my observations, research and talking to various business
