Please Join the Center for Irish Partnerships at UMass Lowell for A TALK AND DISCUSSION ON: Language Resistance and Revival: From Prison to Community Reflecting on research undertaken for his widely acclaimed book Language, Resistance and Revival: Republican Prisoners and the Irish Language in the North of Ireland, Dr Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh’s lecture will draw on his ground-breaking and unique research on the bottom-up community language revival in the north of Ireland. His lecture will briefly explore Ireland’s cultural colonisation as part of the wider British imperial project that ultimately led to the demise of the Irish language as Ireland’s spoken language in the late 19th century.
