UNIV On behalf of the Residence and University Administration I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the Residence Student Body of 2003-04 for the successes and accomplishments of this past year. As a result of the double cohort situation our Residence population has increased by over twenty percent. Lakehead University responded by building two new Apartment style residences to add 288 beds to our inventory. The Residence Life team has grown as well with the addition oftwelve new RA and HP staffand the creation oftheposition ofResidenceAdvisor. There has been an incredible amount of participation on all fronts as the residence students involve A themselves with the various committee and House activities. small example includes *'SUDS", "SAFE", "Residence Food", "Residence Disciplinary and Appeals" Committees, "Lounge Decorating", "Fall Fest", "House BBQs", "Rez Sports", "Price is Right", "Karaoke", "OPP Christmas Parade", "Residence Semi-Formal", "Shinerama", ''Cutz for Cancer", "Food Bank Drives", "Year Book Committee", "Accessibility" to list just a few ofthe various committees and activities that have taken place this year. Residence is for many the "home away from home for the first time" situation. A group of strangers arriving in the fall is transformed into a close-knit family type unit. Many long-lasting friendships are made which will endure for a lifetime. It is with pride that Lakehead enjoys an important part in fostering these friendships. Enjoythese moments as you look through the yearbook for examples of the good times in Residence. The Yearbook Committeehas done an excellentjob intheirtask. I look forward to the remainderofthis yearwith the infectious enthusiasm that is so evident from you the Resident Student! Good luck in your exams and your summer pursuits. We'll see you in the fall. Have a safe and happy summer! Wow! Another year has flown by. For many ofyou it was your first time away from home, while for others it wasjust another eight months away from 'home'. Or wait, is this now 'home'? It is always a sad time ofyear writing this entry into Residence's own yearbook. After all, it is still the beginning ofMarch, and with another seven weeks ofschool and exams left, it's odd having to say 'goodbye'. There is still so much to do, and memories to create. Each ofyou come from diverse backgrounds, small towns and large centres. From across the province, throughout Canada or even other parts ofthe world. The reasons you came to Lakehead may be different, but one thing is for sure, all have lived and learned. I wish to thank all the students who've made a positive impact on both the Residence and Lakehead community. For some, the end ofApril brings on new challenges as you embark onto new adventures. To those I say 'goodbye, and good luck'. Many will be returning to Lakehead in September and to you I say 'see you again soon'. Either way, at some point in the fiiture take the time to reflect upon these last eight months, and remember the good times. Keep it real, and keep it safe. Shannon Foster Residence Life Coordinator It's funny when I sit do^ni to write in this years yearbook it seems so difficult to put into words the last 6 months ofmy life. I have worked with so many extraordinary students, together we have done so much for both the Residence community and the people of Thunder Bay that when I look back on it I sit and smile. Every single student that has taken the opportunity to get involved in Residence life has truly made a difference; just look through this book and you wiU realize all that you have accomplished. The Residence Life team ofHouse Presidents, Resident Assistants, Sports Coordinator and Yearbook Editor this year are one ofthe most amazing groups ofstudents I have ever had the opportunity to work with and each and every one ofyou have touched my life in a very special way. I want to thank them for always finding things that make irritating noises in my office, random run by candy grabs, Tetris marathons. Spice Girls and ohhh the never-ending pop tabs. Now this year wouldn't have been the same without some very important people who helped me out along this journey, you know who you are and thank you to each and every one ofyou who has touched my life in a very special way. Congratulations and good luck to each and every one ofyou - my wish for you is that you enjoy your time here at Lakehead University as much as I did mine. r Editor's Message I cannot believe that the school year has come to an end... may we present you with the 2003-2004 Lakehead University Residence Yearbook. What a busy year it has been! Thanks to my Yearbook committee who took on the extra work of taking pictures and creating awesome pages for each house. As well as to Tanya, Shamon, all of the House Presidents, and Residence Assistants for making this year a huge success of which we have the pictures to prove! A special thanks to all my friends who put up with my yearbook stresses and helped me get this book put together. To everyone in residence, I hope you had an awesome year, filled with good times, friends, residence sports and activities, and dare I say... schoolwork. I hope this book will help each one of you remember everything that has happened this year as you move on. Whether you are graduating or returning for another year, I hope you have a safe and fun-filled summer. Good luck on exams! Karin Smith Yearbook Editor 2003-2004
