What is the special word that God’s Spirit is eager to speak through you? Perhaps it is a word of courage, shown in the ways God has helped you confront the troubles and trials of your life. Perhaps it is a word of patience and forbearance as you forgive those who have wronged you. Perhaps yours is a voice of compassion as you reach out in love to care for someone who is hurting. Perhaps it is a word of challenge, proclaimed against injustice. Whatever it may be, you can be assured that each of us has a sacred word to speak through the story of our living. Pentecost calls us to listen for the voice of God; in listening to find our voice; and then, in faithfulness, to speak with that voice to the needs around us. The miracle of Pentecost is that God comes to us, speaks our language, and gives us a calling. Throughout the season of Pentecost, throughout the whole of our lives, let this then serve as our ardent prayer: O for a thousand tongues to sing our great Redeemers praise; the glories of our God and King, the triumphs of his grace. The more we love each other, the more love we have to love each other. This is so incredible. Believe me it feels so good to grow in God’s love. There are a lot of service opportunities here at Atonement. Why is the 80-20 rule still a pretty good estimate of volunteer work and workers? 80% of good works happen because of the effort of 20% of the people. We can change it here and now! Maybe we get too wrapped up in our routines and the “things” we have to do? Maybe we do our work too much and not His work enough? All we have to do is start something and God will see us through. Psalm 40: 8 says, “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” All we have to do is ask God to open our hearts so we can listen and then give it ten minutes a day. Let me know how it goes. “Find the good and praise it!” A.
