The selection process this year was, as always, very competitive. We received 240 submissions, and each submittedpaper was reviewed byat least three members ofthe Program Committee (PC) (including thorough evaluations by the TPC co-chairs). Atotalof77paperswereselectedasfullpapers(32%),and23asshortpapers(10%). 10 posters were also presented at the conference to allow for a more personal and extended dialogue. Moreover, we were honored to have four prestigious scholars giving keynote speeches at the conference: Prof. Stefanos Kollias (University of Lincoln, UK), Prof. Andrea Passerini (University of Trento, Italy), Prof. Xin Geng (Southeast University, China), and Dr. Dimitrios Tzovaras (Information Technologies Institute and CERTH, Greece). WewouldliketothankeveryonewhoparticipatedinthedevelopmentoftheKSEM 2019 program. In particular, we want to give special thanks to the PC, for their diligence and concern for the quality of the program, and, also, for their detailed feedback to the authors. Moreover,wewouldliketoexpressourgratitudetotheKSEMSteeringCommittee honorarychairProf.RuqianLu(ChineseAcademyofSciences,China),whoprovided insight and support during all the stages of this effort. The members of the Steering Committee, who followed the progress of the conference very closely, with sharp comments and helpful suggestions. The KSEM 2019 general co-chairs, Prof. Gang Li (Deakin University, Australia) and Prof. Dimitrios Plexousakis (University of Crete andFORTH,Greece),whowereextremelysupportiveinoureffortsandinthegeneral success of the conference.
