SUBJECTS Use of the Index This index is designed to reveal subjects and their interrelations. Thus, an entry, ‘‘Anxiety, youth, problem drinking,’’ indicates an item dealing with the interrelationship of the three possibly independent topics, or of any two with the third. And an entry, ‘‘Delin- quency, drinking, antisocial behavior,’ may reveal how delinquency, drinking is affected by antisocial behavior or how antisocial behavior affects delinquency, drinking. Terms Generally, indexing is as specific as possible without posting to broader terms. Many relationships to certain very frequent terms are not indexed under those terms, but appear as main entries throughout the index; scope notes at those terms (e.g., at ‘‘Alcoholism,”’ ‘*Drinkers, drinking’’) are a guide to the index terms used. Preference has been given to direct rather than to inverted entries (e.g., ‘*Prevalence of problem drinking’’ rather than ‘‘Problem drinking/prevalence’’). Information not found one way would be sought the other way or under all possible synonyms. Certain index entries with multiple subdivisions are dealt with by successive main entries, such as ‘‘Accidents/fatal,’’ ‘‘Accidents/traffic.’’ Similarly, see ‘‘Acetate/blood,’’ ‘‘Acetate/endogenous,”’ etc., rather than ‘*Blood ace- tate,’ ‘‘Endogenous acetate,”’ etc. Accidents frustration, 21-5, 27, 91-2 drinking genetic factors, 74 youth, 56, 58 5-HT receptor sensitivity, 163, 173 Adolescents, see Youth mood, 86 Adrenocorticotropic hormone/cerebrospinal fluid pain perception, 21-2 alcoholism types pain sensitivity, 136-7 violence, 165-8 psychomotor stimulation, 133-4 Age reaction-time paradigm, 21-4, 27, 79-80, 82-7 problem drinking review, 20-9, 78-88 premarital aggression, 99-101 sex differences, 25-6, 93 Aggression (see also Aggression/defensive; Aggression/offensive; threat, 22, 27, 82-7, 91-2, 129-34 Aggression/predatory; Aggression/territorial; Premarital women, 89-95 aggression; Verbal aggression; Violence) alcohol—alprazolam, 30-9, 174 alcohol, 7, 30-9, 192, 193-4 reaction time, 33-8 arousal, 26, 27 alcohol dosage, 82-3, 91 attention, 27 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor complex, 173-7 cognitive functions, 85, 134-6, 144 contextual variables, 44, 46-50 contextual variables, 22-4, 33-8, 41, 45-51, 79-80, 82-7, 92 review, 20-9 disinhibition, 26, 27, 85-6 alcoholic beverage type, 22, 24-5, 91 drugs, 78-88, 174 alcoholization of animals, 7 expectations/alcohol response, 26-7, 83, 129-30 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor agonists, 173-5, 176-7 fear inhibition, 130-2, 137 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor antagonists, 175-7 free-operant behavior, 40-52 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor complex, 173-7 196 JOURNAL OF STUDIES ON ALCOHOL / SUPPLEMENT NO. 11, 1993 defensive behavior, 9-19 Alcoholization of animals ethoexperimental models, 140-5, 146-55, 156-62, 170-9 aggression, 7, 192, 193-4 drinking benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor agonists, 173-5, 176-7 culture, 7 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor antagonists, 175-7 sex differences, 63, 70 benzodiazepine-GABA, receptor complex, 173-7 youth, 56-9, 62-77 ethoexperimental models, 140-5, 146-55, 156-62, 170-9 drugs, 80-1 5-HT, (serotonin-2) receptor system, 180-4 sex differences, 89-90 aggression/offensive-defensive women, 89-95 defensive behavior, 9-19 Aggression/defensive monoamines/brain, 185-91 alcoholization of animals sex differences, 15 anxiety, 9-19, 146-55 social signals, 140-5 sex differences, 15 social stress, 146-55 social signals, i40-5 L-tryptophan, 185-91 social stress, 146-55 tyramine, 185-91 Aggression/offensive aggression/predatory alcoholization of animals social signals, 140-5 anxiety, 9-19, 146-55 anxiety sex differences, 15 aggression/offensive-defensive, 9-19, 146-55 social signals, 140-5 sex differences, 15 Aggzression/predatory defensive behavior, 156-62 alcohol dosage Alprazolam—alcohol animals, 140-5 aggression, 30-9, 174 Aggression/territorial anxiety, 32-3, 35, 37 alcoholization of animals heart rate, 34, 36, 38 defensive behavior, 156-62 hostility, 30, 33, 37 5-HT, (serotonin-2) receptor system, 180-4 reaction time, 33-8 social stress, 180-4 self-reports Aggression-machine paradigm intoxication/alcohol, 31-2, 35-6 alcohol, 21-4 mood, 31-2, 35, 37 Aggression Rating Scale, 33, 35 skin conductance, 34, 36, 38 Alcohol Amphetamines Note: Except the immediately following entries, most en- aggression, 80, 82 tries related to Alcohol appear as main entries through- Antisocial behavior/childhood out the index, e.g., Aggression, alcohol; Disinhibition, alcoholism, 74 alcohol.
