Mr. Paulhus is not only a very dedicated teacher, but he is also a devoted friend. Each year he touches the lives of so many of his students in so many different ways. To some he is a wonderful and interesting teacher. To others he is a friendly face who is always willing to listen and yet to others he is simply an understanding man who can understand just what it is like to be a kid. To most of us however, he is all that and more. Rarely is there a time when one can walk down the hall with out receiving a cheerfull “hello” from Mr. Paul¬ hus. He treats each student individually and has inspired not only just the students in his class, but also many other students throughout the school. Because of this unending kindness, the graduating class has grown to love and respect this man very much. The class of nineteen hundred and ninety seven is very proud and honored to dedicate this year’s edition of The Chief to such a man. Thank you Mr. Paulhus. We love you. - The class of 1997 Lawrence Paulhus Memoriam Valerie Lacroix She Was So Young. But She Accomplished So Much. She Was Losing Her Strength, Yet She Made Us All Stronger. Like you, I, too will be leav¬ ing the security of the Swansea Public Schools to face new adventures. We will go off together with high ideals and vast hopes. None of us know where our journey will lead. What we do know is that the lessons we have learned in our schools and in our homes have prepared us for whatever we might encounter. The teachers and staff members who have inspired you and the students who have in¬ spired me have given to us a gift which we will use for the rest of our lives. Cherish the gift and let it guide you in whatever you may do. And so we take our leave. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Hitch your wagon to a star”. May your star burn brightly and your wagon be swift and strong. My wish for you is an extra measure of happi¬ ness, good health and success. I hope that our paths will cross in the future where we will share with each other our tales of daring do and adventure. It has been my distinct privilege to have served as your Superintendent of Schools. For this I shall be eternally grateful. Thank you and goodbye. 4 JOSEPH D.
