SWANSEA FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY 91 men.Page * Advertisements and Senior U7 Connections.Page yearbooR StafF This year, we only had two members left from last year’s yearbook staff. It was clear that we were going to have to start with a whole new staff, which also meant teaching everyone the system and finding people who were interested. Eventually, we ended up with a great staff of 11 girls, and we even picked up a freshman. Although Mr. Coulombe was worried about our deadlines, we all pulled together to finish in time so he wouldn’t lose it. He always kept us very organized, and often had to make difficult decisions that were necessary for the completion of the yearbook. Just like the Class of 2009, our staff was made up of very different kinds of girls, from Bri, who is very quiet, to Toni, who, well, isn’t. I was glad that we had a lot of seniors so that we could have many different opinions on what would look good. Amanda, Katelyn, Kayla, and Caitlin all contributed their ideas and time, along with the underclassmen, Taryn, Lauren, Chrissy, and Casey, who will help to make the coming yearbooks great as well. On behalf of the yearbook staff, we would like to thank Mr. Coulombe for his countless hours of work, and for keeping us all in line. Also, thank you to Christina Garnett from Jostens for helping us create our yearbook. Lastly, I want to say thank you to the entire yearbook staff; you girls really helped make my job easier this year. We hope that this yearbook will help remind you of your high school years when you look back. We knew we had a difficult task set for us this year, especially with the senior connections, since our class is so separated. However, we will always remember the same teachers, the failed attempts at the Pledge of Allegiance, proms, and our senior years. With that, I would like to say good luck to the members of the Class of 2009. As you go forward into your futures, remember all of your memories at Case. Remember your friends, the teachers that made a difference in your lives, and everything else that had made you who you are today. Class of 2010 Yearbook Editor, Kristen Robillard Letters From the Adminisrtr«rfiotri To the Graduation Class of 2010, When you walk across the stage on graduation day to receive your diploma, you are moments away from encapsulating the most cherished memories you will carry for the rest of your life. As time goes on after graduation, you will revisit those memories to recall the important times sketched in your mind forever. Graduation may seem as the end of a journey, but it really is the beginning of a new horizon which you are the sole proprietor of the final outcome. As you cherish the remembrances of many years of friendship, laughter, and academic achievement, use the strengths learned in your Swansea education to pursue lofty personal goals which will "make a difference” in our society. I Step back and take a more objective look: reach high, do not be afraid of a risk, and let the future be yours. Nothing is out of reach for a Case High School Graduate. You are tomorrow - go forward with a purpose and succeed!! Christine Stanton Superintendent of Swansea Public Schools At the end of the musical Once on This Island, the storytellers of the show address the audience with the statement, “And out of what we live and we believe, our lives become the stories that we weave.” I hope that your journey through Joseph Case High School has filled your life with many different experiences and stories that have become part of your personal fabric. You were part of a dynamic shift to core values at our high school. It is the mission of Case High School to provide you with tools and experiences in which you: • communicate in a variety of different ways • apply what you learn in class to real life situations • recognize that responsibility is shared among all stakeholders • recognize that learning is more than note-taking • acknowledge that to create something is the highest realm of thinking skills • are prepared for 21st century learning experiences - some that haven’t even been invented yet. As important, I hope that these past four years have provided you with the chance to form a connection with a student, teacher or coach/advisor. These experiences and the stories that result from them are as equally important to your evolution to adulthood. May the strength of your woven fabric from Joseph Case High School and its memory be cherished. Here’s to your success, individually and collectively! Brian McCann Principal Congratulations on your graduation from Joseph Case High School. This is an accomplishment you should be very proud of, as you have earned the title of high school graduate, a title no one can ever take away. We have come a long way in four years, I remember vividly your first day at Joseph Case High School which was also my first day as assistant principal. I told you on that day that your high school years would pass quickly and they certainly have. I hope that the lessons you have learned both in and out of the classroom will guide you to a successful future. As you embark on your post-high school life I know many of you have lofty goals. Some of you will attend college and enter the business world or the medical field. Others will join the military and help protect our country. Still others will learn a trade and help make life easier for others. Whatever your goals may be I challenge you to get involved and make a difference. Make a difference in the place where you work. Make a difference in the dorm where you live. Make a difference in the life of another. It is easy to sit and watch life go by; it is much more fulfilling if you work for positive change. The famous screenwriter Leo Rosten once wrote: “The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all.” I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Bob Silveira Assistant Principal/Vice Principal To the Class of 2010, As I write this message, it is late November and my first day back to school after a hectic Thanksgiving holiday. I decided to share a special observation with you. On Thanksgiving morning I attend the annual Case vs. Somerset football game. This year the game was at Case, so I was able to settle in a comfortable seat on the 50-yard line. From that vantage point I could partake in my favorite pastime which just so happens to be people watching. What a special treat it was to see past graduates and hear their various stories. There were many conversations being shared and lots of advice regarding colleges to attend. I enjoyed every morsel of conversation availed to me. So the moral of my story? As a student, you have made an impact. You have left your mark and you will be missed. I encourage you to remain in contact and support your community. It is now your turn to give back. Make safe decisions and stay in touch. Sincerely, Karen Ragland Assistant Principal / Administrative Dean Declic^Tioft I «mt>c The Class of 2010 would like to dedicate our yearbook to a very special person, Mrs. Kristine Lucca. For the past four years, she has helped us grow as students and as people. Starting with Library Skills Freshman year, she prepared us for our futures, in more ways than one. Throughout our years at Case, she has been there to make copies, give advice, or just to talk with. Senior year she kept many of us sane, often acting as another guidance counselor in a pinch. Mrs. Lucca has been responsible for National Flonor Society for over 10 years, which includes annual trips to New York. In addition, she has been the advisor to both the Junior and Senior classes over the years. With this responsibility, Mrs. Lucca has run our school dances, which have given many of us very happy memories. Mrs. Lucca has really made an impact on our lives. She is always there to give advice or just to talk when we’re stressed. She wants to make high school a positive experience for everyone, and has tried her best to do so. We appreciate her time invested in us, both academically and personally. We’re definitely going to miss her when we leave Case. Appreciation The Lady Cardinals theme for the ‘09 season was “Tonight’s going to be a good night!” However, it was more than a ‘good night;’ it was an amazing season. 9. What wo9. What would this now mean for slavery? uld this now mean for slavery? 2009 proved to be a year for young talent and strong senior leadership to combine for a successful season. Beginning in August, a squad of 13 girls started their journey to an SCC Co-Championship and eventually a State Championship in Division 3. As most journeys, it started off smooth, but ran into a couple bumps in the road with Fairhaven and Bourne. However, these obstacles did not stop the Lady Cardinals from reaching their goal. As we entered the tournament, which seems to take forever to get started, our quest for a State Championship became more real. We knew we had several difficult opponents to get through, but believed it was not impossible. Sacred Heart was a team we would inevitably face in the South Finals. In our match earlier in the season, Case and Sacred Heart battled 5 games. With Case down 0-2, it was time to turn up the power. Winning the next 2 games, we knew game 5 was going to be our toughest yet. We fell behind early 5-11; however, the Lady Cardinals came roaring back and finished it off with a 15-11 victory. However, the Cardinals did not allow this to happen again. Case swept Sacred Heart in a match that demonstrated flawless play. Step by step we were reaching a title. With Frontier up next, seeded number 1 in the State, we needed a game plan that would match up well. Studying a scouting report on the way to the game, the girls came out and knew what to do. After dropping game one, Case defeated Frontier 3-1 to advance to the Sate Finals. With a defeat of Frontier, the Lady Cardinals knew that no one could stop them. And so it was on November 21st, the Case Cardinals swept Notre Dame Academy 25-10, 25-22, 25-17 to claim the title as Division 3 State Champions. 0* II BBB^ ra ■il ftjj-.OT. -) S' 1 >AAPr 1 wkh vu iny il fy$ >/ C,fifi?v8|fak I^£«sHs ’j\J %$m .'; i *•'';» '*"'•' OPii^K \ ]
