PREFACE.
This work was begun by Capt. Levi Crowell, of West
Dennis, Mass., and his records have been used as the basis,
being supplemented by those of the late Henry G. Crowell,
of South Yarmouth, Mass. Invaluable assistance has been
rendered by Mr. Samuel P. May, of Newton, Mass., who
has made a special study of the Sears and Crowell families.
Thanks are due to him and also to Mr. J. Oliver Williams,
of New York, Dr. Samuel Crowell, of Boston, and many
others who have assisted in the preparation of the book.
In arrangingthe followinglist ofJohn Crowe's descendants,
the names ofheads of families are numbered inthe order they
occur in the series. The figures are convenient for reference,
and as each person designated by a number has a separate
article farther on, the reader will be enabled to trace out the
genealogy of members of the family. It is not pretended
that the list is accurate, or as full as it might be made, and
it is hoped that any errors or omissions that may be detected
will be brought to the attention ofthe publishers.
