During their investigations into survival after death, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips travelled extensively. They touched and talked to their people in the spirit world, and to spirit guides through materialization and direct voice. Having taken every precaution to avoid deception, they met several mediums who were faking their messages and several who, in other respects good mediums, yet faked part of the evidence. Nevertheless, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips decided that they had received sufficient proof that we do definitely live on in a soul or spirit world, and that there is no death but a transition of the soul from the physical body to the world of spirit. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, the joint authors of this unusual book, who have spent more than twenty-five years inves- tigating the truth or otherwise of life after death, decided that they had received sufficient proof to declare that we definitely do live on in a soul or spirit world, and that there is no death but a transition of the soul from the physical body to the world of spirit. Being most anxious not to influence anyone regarding this decision, they faithfully recorded every event as it transpired over the years, so that readers will be able to arrive at their own conclusions regarding this most controversial sub- ject. Alec Harris. Johannesburg. 9 AUTHOR’S NOTE Whilst this book was being prepared for the publishers, my dear wife passed over very suddenly into the world of spirit. The wonderful knowledge of life in the hereafter, given to us over so many years has helped me, my children and grandchildren to bear our loss calmly and philosophically, knowing full well that when our time comes we shall surely be reunited. About one month after my wife’s passing she spoke to some of my friends through the trumpet at a direct voice sitting in Johannesburg, and I was told that her voice, manner of speaking and knowledge of my family’s affairs, convinced them that it was definitely my wife speaking to them. She told them that going over to the world of spirit with so much knowledge of life after death, made her realize almost immediately of the transition that took place, and she soon recognized our families and our many guides who were waiting to welcome her into the spirit world. Since then my wife has appeared several times to a medium who had known her very well and Nefretiti has also been seen by the same medium on several occasions. Keith Pinchen the well known clairvoyant medium who reports that whilst demonstrating recently in the church of the Bulawayo Spiritualist Association on two consecutive occasions, he saw my wife walking down the aisle towards him. He says that she stayed with him on the platform 11 during the whole time he was giving clairvoyance, and felt that she was giving him much psychic power. Mr. Pinchen had known my wife for some time, and had no difficulty in recognizing her as she showed herself to him when she appeared in the hall. To see the Old Year 1970 out and the New Year in, a direct voice circle was held in Bulawayo, as an annual event, and to which I was invited. A large number of guides came in turn, and through the trumpet wished us all a very happy new year. Several times hands materialized quite solidly and shook hands with some of the sitters before fading away. Several of the sitters had their spirit people come and speak to them and lastly my wife came through. Firstly the trumpet came towards me and rested on my knee for several moments, and then returned to the normal height in front of me. At first a voice saying ‘Sybil, this is Sybil’ seemingly to come from behind the trumpet was clear, normal and recog- nizable. She started to say that she was with my family as often as possible, and said how happy she was to be with us, when a very heavy thunderstorm, lightning and one of the heaviest rainstorms imaginable started, making it most difficult to hear ourselves speak. My wife must have then spoken right into the trumpet which caused the timbre of her voice to change and become slightly resonant. However, we continued talking, and in reply to my ques- tion, she explained that she and all the spirit people were kept extremely busy helping those souls who are new to spirit conditions and need their help. Since my wife’s passing we had resumed sitting with the glass, but there seemed to be some evidence that my wife was not always the communicator on these occasions. 12
