(ETD 10) Primary cellsand BatteriesSectionalCommittee,EID10 FOREWORD This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted bythe Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Primary cells and Batteries Sectional Committee had been approved by the ElectrotechnicalDivision Council. This Indian Standard was first published in 1976. This revision affects various modifications in the requirementsofmultipurposedrybatteriestobring itinlinewith relevantlEe. Apartfrom drybatteries for specificapplicationslikeflashlights, transistorradio receivers, photoflash and hearing aids, dry batteries suitable for multipurpose applications are being manufactured in the countrybecause of its applicability in choices and use to the common consumer. This standard which coverssuch multipurposedrybatteriesisexpected to providevariety rationalisationwithoutsacrificing qualityforagivenspecificapplication. In view of the wider application of dry batteries of sizes R 14 and R 20 in cassette tape recorders, performancesrequirementsforthese twosizesofbatterieshavebeenincluded inthestandard. Thestoragelifehasbeenrevisedto twelvemonths besidesmeeting the leakaprooftest to 0.6volts. Codeofpracticefor useand disposalofdrybatterieshavebeen includedin AnnexB. Sincethe performancevalues laid downfor the multipurposecellsare at par with the cellsfor specific applicationwith the cellsofdesignationR 6,R 14andR 20SpecifiedinIS203:1984'Specificationfor drybatteries for flashlights (thirdrevision)', IS2576:1975'Specification for drybatteriesfor transistor radioreceivers(firstrevision)'andIS7218:1974'Drybatteriesforhearingaids',itwasdecidedtowithdraw the aboveindividual standards. Thisstandardshallbe read inconjuctionwith IS6303:1984 'Generalrequirementsandmethodsoftest for dry cellsand batteries'. In the preparation of this standard, assistance has been derived from IEC Publication86-2(1972)'Primarycellsandbatteries:Part2Specificationsheets(thirdedition)'issuedby the InternationalElectrotechnicalCommission.
