The fourth revision ofIS 1460 :2000'Automotivediesel fuels - Specification'coversthe requirementsand test methodsofHigh Speed Diesel (HSD) and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) meant for automotive and non-automotive applicationrespectively.Consideringtheeverincreasingstringencyinthe requirementsofautomotivedieselfuel tomeettheemergingemissionnorms,ithasbeendecidedtosplittheexistingstandardintotwoseparatestandards covering specifications for HSD and LDO.Accordingly, it was decided to bring out a newstandard for LDO, meantfornon-automotivepurposes,asthefifthrevisionofIS 1460coversonlyHSDfor automotiveapplications. LDOisused inmediumand slowspeeddieselenginesemployedin earthmovingequipment,pumpsets,power generation, marine engines, industrial application, heating purposes, etc. Considering the fact that the diesel enginesare used intheseapplications, requirementsofLDO have beenspecified in this standard.
