MTD 15 FOREWORD This Indian Standard (Second Revision) wasadopted bythe Bureau ofIndian Standards after draft finalized by the Refractories Sectional Committee had been approved bythe Metallurgical Engineering Division Council. This standard was first published in 1960and subsequently revised in 1967. While reviewing the standard in the light ofexperience gained during these years, the Committee decided torevise ittobring it in line with the present practices being followed by the Indian industry. In this revision, the following changes have been made: a) One more grade of tireclay blocks for glass tank furnace has been incorporated, b) Physical tests for cold crushing strength, refractoriness under load and permanent linear change after reheating have also been incorporated. It istobe pointed out that though anumber oftests have been prescribed inthis standard, itis not intended that all of them should be carried out in each case, as by ajudicious application of some of the tests it shoutd be possible tojudge the quality of refractories in a lot. However, the tests to be conducted in each case would depend upon the service, conditions for which the refractories are intended, and purchasers are advised to indicate these conditions at the time of placing an indent or order. For the purpose ofdeciding whether aparticular requirement ofthis standard iscomplied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with 1S2:1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revi,~ed)’. The ntinber of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that ofthe specified value in this standard.
