Thisstandardhasbeendevelopedtocovertherequirementsofthesafetytounprotectedroadusers,mainlypedestrians, cyclists and two wheeler riders to protect them against the risk of falling under the sides of vehicles and being caught under thewheels. Inpreparation ofthis standard considerable assistancehasbeen derived from the ECE Regulation 73 ‘Uniform provisions concerning the approval of goods vehicles trailers, trailers and semi-trailers with regard to their lateral protection’. Inthisrevision, clause onGeneral Requirement hasbeen included andScopehasbeen modified. Thecomposition ofthe Committee responsible forformulation ofthisstandard isgiven inAnnex B. Forthe purpose of deciding whether aparticular requirement of this standard iscomplied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with 1S2:1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’.
