The Eco-Mark shall beadministered by the BureauofIndianStandards(BIS)undertheBISAct, 1986aspertheResolution No.71dated21 February 1991 and ResolutionNo.425 dated28 October 1992 published in the Gazette of the Government of India. For a product to be eligible for Eco-Mark, itshall also carry the Standard Mark ofthe BIS besides meeting additional environment friendly requirements. For this purpose, the Standard Mark ofBIS would be a single mark being a combination ofthe lSI Mark and the Eco logo. Requirements to be satisfied for a product to qualify forthe BISStandardMark forEcofriendlinesswillbeoptional. Manufacturing unitswillbefreetooptforlSI Markalonealso. The Eco-Mark criteria is based on the Gazette Notification No. 170 dated 18 May 1996 for Wood Substitutes as Environment Friendly Products publishedintheGazetteoftheGovernmentofIndia.' (Page 1,clause4.3)- Insertthefollowingattheendoftheclause: 'ForEco-Mark,only woodfromsourcesotherthannaturalforestssuchaswood fromrubber,coconut,cashew, industrialandsocialforestryplantations,etc,and shade trees from tea and coffee estates shall be used for the manufacture of veneers. Bamboo mats shall be made from bamboo from sources other than naturalforests.' AmendNo.3toIS 14588 : 1999 10.1.2 The manufacturershall produceto BIS environmental consent clearance from the concerned State Pollution Control Board as per the provisions of WaterfPrevention andControl ofPollution) Act, 1974and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1977 along with the authorization, if required under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 while applyingfor Bee-Mark appropriate withenforcedRulesandRegulationsofforestdepartment. 10.2 SpecificRequirements The bamboo mat veneercomposites shall conform to the specific requirements givenforEco-Markunderrelevantclauses ofthestandard. NOTE- Themanufacturer shallprovide documentaryevidencebywayofcertificaae or declarationtoBureauofIndill1StMdardswhileapplyingforEcoaMark.' In thepresentscenario.whereavailabilityofconventionaltimberhasbeenreducedtoconsiderableextent this bamboomat-veneercompcsiteisexpectedtofindextensiveuseinfuture. Thisstandardbasbeenformulatedto guidethemanufaet~rsandusersofbamboomat-veneercomposite. In thepreparation ofthisstandard, considerable assistance has beenrendered byIndianPlywood Industries ResearchandTraining Institute,Bangalore. The composition of the technical committee responsible for the formulation of this standard is givenat AnnexD. Forthepurposeofdecidingwhetheraparticular requirementofthisstandard iscompliedwith, thefinalvalue, observedor calculated, expressing the result of a test ofanalysis, shallbe rounded offin accordance with IS2:1960'Rulesforroundingotfnumerica1values(revised)'. Thenumberofsignificantplacesretainedinthe' roundedoffvalueshouldbe thesameasthatofthespecifiedvalueinthisstandard.
