NewDelhi,India Non-conventionalEnergySources SectionalCommittee,ME 04 FOREWORD This Indian Standard(Part 1)(SecondRevision) was adopted by the BureauofIndian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Non-conventional Energy Sources Sectional Committeehad been approved by the Mechanical EngineeringDivisionCouncil. Thisstandardwas first publishedin 1990. Itwasrevised in 1992with aview toalign itwith thelatesttechnology and also practicesbeingfollowed inthe Indianindustriestomakeitmore amenableto certification. Inthe second revision attempthas been made to align itwith relevant ISO Standards ISO 9806 (Parts 1and 2) keeping in view that domestic solar thermal equipment industry may gearup with international requirement to compete globally in this area to enter global market. By this consideration, the following new tests have been added inlinewith ISO Standard: a) Externalthermalshocktest (exposureto sudden rain storms), b) Internalthermalshocktest (suddenintake ofcold heat transferfluids onhot sunny days), c) Time constanttest(reproductionofsolarenergy inzeroandthenmeasuringthe timeforspecifiedquantity. This informationwouldbe useful for water heating system designersand forfield installations), and d) Incidentanglemodifiertest. Impactresistancetest has been substantiallyupgraded. TheheatlossfactorF U hasbeenreduced from6.0W/m2°C, Maxto5°W/m2°C,Maxtoimprovetheperformance R L ofthe collector. In orderto facilitatethe referenceand use, this standard is one ofa series ofsolar flat plate collectorstandards. Other standardsare as follows: IS No. Title IS 12933 Solarflat plate collector-Specification (Part2) :2003 Components(secondrevision) (Part 3) :2003 Measuringinstruments(first revision) (Part 5) :2003 Test methods(secondrevision) Part4ofthisstandardwhich coveredperformancerequirementsandacceptancecriteriaforsolarflatplatecollectors was subsequentlywithdrawnand itscontents incorporated inPart 1. / For the purpose ofdeciding whethera particularrequirement ofthis standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS2:1960 'Rulesforrounding offnumerical values (revised)'.
