the BicyclesSectionalCommitteehad been approvedby theTransportEngineeringDivisionCouncil.
This standardwasfirst publishedin 1958and subsequentlyrevisedin 1968and 1985.Earlier'PH'Type and 'R'
Typebottombracketball cups offixed and adjustabletype werecoveredunderfourseparatestandards,namely,
IS 1132 : 1985 'Specification for 6icycle bottom bracket adjustable ball cup (PH type) (second revision)',
IS1133:1985'Specificationforbicyclebottombracketfixedballcup(pHtype)(secondrevision)',IS 11734:1986
'Specification for bicycle bottom bracket adjustable ball cup (R type)' and IS 11735: 1986 'Specification for
bicyclebottombracketfixed ballcup(Rtype)'.Asaresultofexperiencegainedbythe manufacturersofbicycles,
many other-forms ofbottombracketball cupshave evolvedoverapassageoftime. Thisrevisionofstandardis
beingtaken uptoamalgamateallthe four standardsand toincludeothertypesofbottombracketball cups being
usedinthebicycleindustry,sincemostoftherequirementsofalltypesofbottombracketball cupsaresame.With
thepublicationofthis standardIS 1133: 1985,IS 11734: 1986 and IS 11735: 1986willbe withdrawn.
The compositionofthe Committeeresponsiblefor the formulationofthis standardis giveninAnnexA.
For thepurposeofdecidingwhetheraparticularrequirementofthis standardiscompliedwith,the final value,
observedorcalculated,expressingtheresultofatestoranalysis,shallberoundedoffinaccordancewithIS2:1960
'Rulesforroundingoffnumericalvalues(revised)'.Thenumberofsignificantplacesretainedintheroundedoff
valueshouldbethe same as that ofthe specifiedvaluein this standard.
