Her personal background as a European Slovenian and Middle Eastern Yemeni gives her a particular perspective on intercultural education. Her research interests lie in addressing intercultural experiences, intercultural dialogue and policy implementation of intercultural education at the European to the Dutch district level. Lidia Cabrera Pérez holds a PhD in Educational Science. She is a tenured lecturer in research methods and diagnostic studies in education at the University of La Laguna, Spain, where she teaches the Master of Psychopedagogy course on assessment and evaluation in education. She is also on the staff of the doctoral programme in education as research at the university. Her focus is on dropouts and failure in higher education, and intercultural education, and she has published extensively on these topics. Dr Cabrera Pérez has also participated in different projects at the Universities of Lisbon, Amsterdam, Massachusetts-Boston and at the Instituto Politécnico (Costa Rica). Marco Catarci is Associate Professor of Social and Intercultural Education in the Department of Education, Roma Tre University. He holds a PhD in Education and collaborates with the Research Centre on Intercultural and Development Education at Roma Tre. He is a member of the PhD School in Educational Research and Theory, and has been a member of the Board of the Italian Society for Pedagogy and of the Italian National University Council. He has taken part in many national and European research projects in the field of education, and has presented several papers at international conferences. His major research interests include intercultural education, cultural mediation and inclusion of refugees, and he is the author of books, articles and research reports on these topics. Giovanni Cicero Catanese holds a PhD in Intercultural Education (University of Messina). His research focuses on the bilingual education of deaf children through sign language, and he has completed an analysis of educational initiatives in linguistic contexts with a high concentration of immigrants. He is the author of several publications on these issues and since 2004 has cooperated with the Institut für Interkulturelle Pädagogik im Elementarbereich (IPE) of Mainz (Germany), where he has developed a European Language Portfolio for young children. Since 2009, he has been a lecturer (Lehrbeauftragter) in several German universities
