The use of this spelling dictionary will reduce, by at least two-thirds, the time normally taken to find a word in a regular dictionary. Both for the individual and a business office, this book can bring great savings in time and money. All persons who write, dictate, transcribe, or check the writing of others will find daily use for this book. Many short words of one or two syllables have been omitted except where they may contain a A difficulty or can be confused with other words. large number of technical words are included. Word Division andAccents The syllables into which a word may be divided are shown by an accent mark or a centered period. The main accented syllable is shown by use of a heavy accent mark (a-bil'i-ties). If a word contains two accents, the syllable that is given less emphasis is indicated by a light accent mark (ab'o-li'tion). Homonyms and other words often confused The definition of homonyms and other words that are often confused because of spelling or pronuncia- tion is given in small type below the word. Each such word is cross-referenced to avoid use of the wrong word.
