Instructions are for typical, new wood-framed wall construction with weather protection in place. Instructions may not be right for all installations due to building design, construction materials or methods used and/or building or site conditions. Side Inside Stop • Turn units interior side up. • Remove all Inside Stop nails using a hammer and wood block. Side Inside Stop Sill Inside Stop • Remove head and sill Inside Stops by gently prying outward between frame and stops using a small pry bar. Joining Posts Joining Post Joining Post must be flush with top and bottom of Center Unit(s). • Fasten Joining Posts to Center Unit(s) using #10 x 2-1/4" screws spaced at 6" to 8" intervals. Attach Flanking Units to 30° or 45° Joining Posts (Continued) Clamp • Clamp flanking units to 30° or 45° Joining #10 x 2-1/4" Posts and fasten using #10 x 2-1/4" screws Screws spaced every 6" to 8" inches. Prepare Platforms Interior Edge Carpenter’s Square • Place Platforms rough side up on work Platform surface. (rough side) • Measure length of Platform along interior Pencil edge. Place pencil mark at center of Platform. • Mark centerline across width of Platform and Centerline Mark Exterior Edge down exterior edge using a carpenter’s square. • Repeat step for other Platform. Platform • Flip Platforms over, smooth side up (opposite Pencil (smooth side) side of centerline mark). • Scribe a line 2-1/4" in from and along entire length of exterior edge of Platforms using Scribed Line combination square. 2-1/4" Combination Square 7. Determine and Mark Centerline on Unit Mark Center Pencil Number of Center Units will determine centerline placement on unit. • For Single Center Unit, measure width of Center Units along frame. Place pencil mark at center of unit on frame. Repeat at other end of Center Units. Mark Center • For 2-Wide Center Unit, place pencil mark in Single Center Unit center of middle Joining Post. Repeat at Interior Side Up other end of middle Joining Post. 5 30° & 45° Bay Window Assembly Guide 8. Position Platforms • Position one Platform, centerline facing inward, on end of bay unit Lower Platform against Installation Flanges. Scribed Line • Align centerline of Platform with center mark on unit. • Fasten Platform to ends of center Upper Platform unit(s) along scribed line using two Interior Side Up #8 x 1-1/2" flat head wood screws. Head • Repeat for other Platform. Installation Installation Flange Flange Sill Head Upper Platform (installed) Lower Platform Scribed (installed) Line Sill #8 x 1-1/2" Screw 9. Position Head and Seat Boards Seat Board Head and Seat Boards must (unfinished side) be temporarily installed as templates to assist in securing Platforms to window units. Head Head Board Head Board • Determine interior finished side of Upper Platform (finished side) (installed) (installed) Seat Board. Clamp • Place Seat Board, finished side Seat Board toward interior, into position against (installed) Lower Platform. • Center Seat Board to obtain best fit. • Clamp Seat Board to Lower Platform. Fasten Platforms Head Board Upper Platform Head Clamp • Lift up on sill of one of Flanking Seat Board Units until it fits tightly against Seat Board. Fasten Here to • Fasten Lower Platform to sill of Fasten Lower Platform Flanking Flanking Unit using a #8 x 1-1/2" Here to Units screw, located on scribed line, as Flanking Scribed Line shown. Units • Repeat for head end of Flanking Unit. Sill Flanking • Repeat for opposite Flanking Unit. Unit • Check Head and Seat Board for Interior Side Up correct fit. If adjustment is Head required, remove screws from Flanking Units and adjust as needed. • Fasten Platforms to Flanking and Center Units using #8 x 1-1/2" 6"-8" Scribed Line screws at 6" to 8" intervals. Use scribed lines on the Platforms as a guide. Sill 11. Secure Platforms to Mullion Posts and Side Jambs 45˚ Bay Windows • Mark screw locations, as shown in the cross section details below, on Lower Platform at each Joining Post, using a pencil. Lower Platform • Fasten Lower Platform to Joining Posts and Side Jambs using the appropriate size screws based on the cross section details below. Area of Details • Repeat procedure for Upper Platform. Secure Platforms to Joining Posts and Side Jambs (Continued) 30˚ Bay Windows • Mark screw locations, as shown in the cross section details below, on Lower Platform at each Joining Post, using a pencil. • Fasten Lower Platform to Joining Posts and Side Jambs using the Lower Platform appropriate size screws based on the cross section details below. • Repeat procedure for Upper Platform. Follow Cable Hole Template instructions found in the Cable Support System package to determine cable hole locations. Drill a 3/8" hole through Platforms and Head/Seat Boards at all Joining Post locations before proceeding to Step 12. 12. Remove Head and Seat Boards • Label Head and Seat Boards for later reinstallation. Seat Board • Remove clamps holding Head and Seat Boards to Platforms. • Carefully remove and repackage Head and Seat Boards for shipment to installation site. Replace Inside Stops Head Stop (Reinstall Second) Side Stop (Reinstall First) When reapplying side Inside Stop on the lock side of tandem lock Casement Units, nail through Head existing holes. Failure to do so could result in damage to underlying lock mechanism. Side Stop (Reinstall First) Sill Stop • Position side Inside Stops first, then head and sill (Reinstall Inside Stops in frame groove and reapply by tacking Second) into place using 4d (1-1/2") finishing nails. Leave Interior Side Up approximately 1/8" of nail head exposed to assist in removal of Inside Stops for finishing. Sill Note: Unit not shown in bay configuration for clarity. 14. Apply Cross Bracing and Skids 1 x 4 Cross Bracing • Cut and fasten two 2 x 4 skids to Lower Platform using #8 x 2" screws for transporting unit. Make sure skid 5" 5" closest to interior is at least 5" from interior edge of Lower Platform. • Fasten 1 x 4 cross braces with screws to the corners of platforms at a diagonal as shown. 2 x 4 Skids Interior Side Up 15. Seal Ends of Mullion Posts Sealant Apply Sealant to Joining Post Ends Windows and doors can be heavy. For 30° Bay Units, cut 15° miter. For 45° Bay Units, cut 22-1/2° miter. Cut ends of Auxiliary Casing for outermost Flanking Units flush with outside edge of Flanking Unit and parallel to Platform as shown. • Predrill Auxiliary Casing using a 1/8" Auxiliary Casing drill bit 1-1/4" deep, spacing holes Applied Sealant every 8" to 12" inches. • Apply sealant between Auxiliary Casing and units and at all mitered ends of Sill Exterior Side Up Auxiliary Casing. 1-1/2" Flat Head • Fasten Auxiliary Casing through Wood Screws predrilled holes using corrosion resistant 1-1/2" flat head wood screws. Auxiliary Sealant Casing • Remove excess sealant squeeze out on units or Auxiliary Casing using a soft Platform Head Jamb rag. Cross Section Detail - Horizontal 17. Prepare Unit for Transport Projecting unit must be supported at all times until fully fastened into opening to prevent tipping. Failure to do so could result in severe personal injury, product and/or product property. • Carefully stand unit upright on sill end. Temporarily secure unit to flat or other stable surface using Pallet fasteners, straps, and 2 x 4 bracing. • Make sure all components and accessories are located Exterior View and prepared for shipment to installation site along ATTENTION with unit.
