This conference was organized by the School of Engineering of University of Minho, throughout MEtRICs and Algoritmi Research Centres. The aim of this conference was to present the latest engineering achievements and innovations, and to provide a chance for exchanging views and opinions concerning the creation of added value for the industry and for the society. The main conference topics include (but are not limited to): (cid:129) Innovation (cid:129) Industrial Engineering (cid:129) Mechanical Engineering (cid:129) Mechatronics Engineering (cid:129) Systems and Applications (cid:129) Societal Challenges (cid:129) Industrial Property. The organizers received 139 contributions from 16 countries around the world. Afterathoroughpeer-reviewprocess,thecommitteeaccepted81paperswritten by335authorsfrom15countriesfortheconferenceproceedings(acceptancerateof 58%), which were organized in three volumes of the Springer Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering. This volume, with the title “Innovations in Industrial Engineering II”, specifi- cally focuses on innovative technologies associated with and strategies for the development ofIndustry4.0. The chapters discuss new ways to improve industrial production and supply chain management by applying mathematical and compu- tational methods. They also cover important issues relating to sustainability, edu- cation, and collaborations between industry and universities, and national developments. Last but not least, it analyses important issues proposing a good balance of theoretical and practical aspects. This book consists of 25 chapters, prepared by 96 authors from 7 countries. v vi Preface Extendedversionsofselectedbestpapersfromtheconferencewillbepublished in the following journals: Sensors, Applied Sciences, Machines, Management and ProductionEngineeringReview,InternationalJournalofMechatronicsandApplied Mechanics, SN Applied Sciences, Dirección y Organización, Smart Science, Business Systems Research, and International Journal of E-Services and Mobile Applications. A special thanks to the members of the International Scientific Committee for their hard work during the review process. We acknowledge all that contributed to the staging of ICIE’2022: authors, committees, and sponsors. Their involvement and hard work were crucial to the success of ICIE’2022.
