intheIslands.TheestablishmentofthisfirsteverMedical Collegeinthesefarflung
IslandsofAndaman&NicobarwillbeagamechangerintheHealthSector.Thewell
qualified and experienced faculty of the College will, apart from teaching the
students,providetheSpecialistcare,whichwasdeficientformanydecades.
On this occasion, I thank the Hon'ble Prime Minister, the Hon'ble Home
MinisterandtheHon'bleHealthMinisterforhavingsanctionedtheMedical College
to theIslanders. Icomplimentall those who haveworked hard to achieve thisgoal

TheAndaman NicobarAdministration hasdecided to conduct a single Common
Entrance Test (ANIPMT-2015) for selection of candidates to the MBBS degree
coursesinAndamanNicobarIslandInstituteofMedicalSciences,PortBlair.
The Entrance Test (ANIPMT 2015) will be held on Sunday, 02 August 2015 at
notifiedcentersofAndaman&NicobarIslands.
ForselectiontotheMBBSdegreecourse,TheDirector,ANIIMSPortBlairshallbe
theCompetentAuthority.
TheapplicationformforANIPMT2015willbeavailableattheofficeoftheDirector,
ANIIMS Port Blair,Office of DeputyCommissioner,CarNicobar,NicobarDistrict
andnotifiedbranchesofSyndicateBank.
ThesyllabusofANIPMT2015 issame as SSCcourse of CBSE.Theadmitcard
willbeissuedfromtheofficeofDirector,ANIIMSPortBlair.
After declaration ofresult/meritlist,specified numberofcandidateswill be called
forcounselling/admissionanddocumentverification.

1. INTRODUCTION :
The long awaited dream of the Andaman & Nicobar Islanders has come true. The
Administration is on the verge of starting a New Medical College named Andaman & Nicobar
IslandsInstituteofMedicalSciences(ANIIMS).
1.1 AndamanandNicobarIslands:
TheAndaman&NicobarIslandsisaUnionterritory,withPortBlairasitscapital.TheIslands
-atotalof572innumber-arelocatedinSouth-EastoftheBayofBengal,between6˚and14˚North
latitudes and 92˚& 94˚ East longitudes. For administrative purposes, the Islands in the Union
Territory are grouped into three districts viz. North & Middle Andaman, South Andaman, and
Nicobar.
1.2 Location:
AndamanNicobarIslands InstituteofMedicalSciences (ANIIMS)isthenew andtheonly
MCI permitted Medical College of Andaman &Nicobar Islands (Union territory). It is situated at
Atlanta Point, near Cellular Jail Complex, Port Blair, South Andaman District, Andaman and
NicobarIslands.
1.3 EssenceofMedicalCollege:
A&NIslandsaresituatedabout1200Km.fromthemainland.ThepopulationoftheIslands,
asperthelastCensusis3.80lakh.AMedicalCollegeintheAndamanandNicobarIslandsgives
distinct boost to the health care standards of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with available
increased number of medical professionals and advanced health care infrastructure.Awell run
MedicalCollegeinperfectambienceandsalubriousclimateofAndamanandNicobarIslandswill
provideinadditionacompetitiveflairtothelucrativemedicaltourism.
1.4 Andaman&NicobarIslandsInstituteofMedicalSciences(ANIIMS)
Andaman&NicobarIslandsInstitute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS)isa premierMedical
CouncilofIndiapermittedMedicalInstituteestablishedbyAndaman&NicobarMedicalEducation
andResearchSociety(ANIMERS)underAndaman&NicobarAdministration.ANIMERSischaired
by the Lt. Gen.A.K. Singh PVSM,AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd.), Honorable Lieutenant Governorof
Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Executive Council of the Institute is presided by the Chief
Secretary,A&NAdministration.
1.5 Mission
Theprimaryaimofthe Instituteis toprovidestateofartmedical services,qualitymedical
ANDAMAN &NICOBARISLANDS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES -2015-16 Page- 1
educationandresearchinAndaman&NicobarIslands.TheInstitutebeingtheonlyMedicalCollege
inthisregioniscommittedtoupliftthehealthcaredeliverysystemforthepeopleoftheseIslands.
TheInstituteisscheduledtostartitsacademicsessionfrom2015-16with100seatsofwhich85%
arereserved forthestudents ofAndaman&NicobarIslands.Theinstitute hasbeenpermittedto
admitstudentsbyMedicalCouncilofIndiavideMinistryofHealthandFamilyWelfare.
1.6 Director:
MajGen(Dr)R.P.Choubey,VSM(Retd)istheDirectorofANIIMS.Heisamedicalgraduate
from KGMU, Lucknow, and postgraduate fromAFMC, Pune. He didhis post-doctoral training in
Gastro-intestinalsurgeryfromAIIMS,NewDelhi,andwasavisitingfellowatLiverTransplantation
Centre,QueenElizabethhospital, Birmingham,UK. He hasserved intheArmedForcesMedical
Servicesforover35years.HewasconferredVishishtSevaMedalforhismeritoriousservicebythe
President of India. He is a member of Association of Surgeons of India, Indian association of
SurgicalGastroenterology,AssociationofArmedForcesSurgeons ofIndiaandIndianChapterof
InternationalAssociationofHepatobiliarysurgery.
1.7 Departments:
TheANIIMShasallthepre-clinical,para-clinical andclinicaldepartmentswith associated
GB Pant Hospital.The pre-clinical and para-clinical departments haveinternet and Wi-Fi facility
and are well equipped with labs, demonstration rooms, dissection hall, seminar rooms,
departmentallibraryandresearchlabs.
