THE EXHIBITION
A new exhibition in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections
(1130 HBLL) will be opened on October 8, 2008. The
exhibition, In Honorable Remembrance: Thomas L. Kane
and the Latter-day Saints will feature various manuscripts,
printed items, and photographs from the large Kane
Manuscript collection from the Harold B. Lee Library.
These materials will assist visitors in better understand-
ing the life and contributions of this important friend
of the Latter-day Saints. Accompanying the exhibition
will be a series offree public lectures focusingon various
aspects ofthe life ofThomas L. Kane and his important
contributions to the Latter-day Saints and their history.
During his visit to the Mormon camps along the Missouri River near
what eventually became Council Bluffs, Thomas /.. Kane drewseveral
smallsketchesojvariousscenesheobserved. Thedrawings wereincluded
ina lettersenttohisparentsin Philadelphia,Jul)'25, 1846. Thissketch
shows thegrowing encampments oj the Mormons in western Iowa.
