Description:Il sito della Rocca di Oratino: dieci anni di ricerche presents the results of research carried out since 2005 on the Bronze Age site of Orantino-La Rocca (Campobasso), located in the upper Biferno river valley, in a strategic position along an important route that extends inland from the Adriatic coast to the Matese mountains. The site lies at the foot of a tall spur that dominates the landscape to this day. The volume presents evidence pertaining to the final stages of the occupation of the settlement, in the late Subappennine period (12th century BC). These layers are marked by the presence of a series of cooking slabs and hearths, dedicated to food preparation and consumption. The volume includes studies on the various categories of artefacts retrieved, such as pottery, plaster, and chipped stone artefacts, in addition to bio-archaeological remains - particularly paleobotanical ones - which can be made the focus of multi-disciplinary research. Through an integrated analysis of the available data (based on the excavations, the functional study of the pottery, the analysis of bio-archaeological remains, and the spatial distribution of these and other finds), hypotheses are put forward concerning the fire-related activities practised on the site and the management of space in an open area along the edge of the site.
