These are: • Listening and Speaking (2nd edition) ; i' .-/■ :• . ; • Reading and Writing—Academic Module - Y.- • Reading and Writing—General Training Module. The skills and strategies needed for tackling the IELTS test are explained and practised in these three books. If you have not had previous experience or preparation for the IELTS, you should prac tise with these books first. a s p This book contains only practice test material for the Listening, the Academic Reading and Writing and the General Training '8'"~ - Reading and Writing tests. No speaking test material has been * ,• • included here, as the Listening and Speaking book has been updated to explain and give practice in the new IELTS speaking test format. This book contains two complete listening tests, and is accompa :^8 '•■:•.•' • ■** nied by an audio cassette. Practice Test 1 goes up to Question 42, and Practice Test 2 goes up to Question 41. The reading and writing sec tions have been arranged to make them as flexible as possible. There are nine readings in the Academic Reading Module. These have been divided into Readings 1 A, B and C, 2A, B and C and 3A, B and C. All the Readings 1 have 14 questions—numbered from 1-14. All the Readings 2 also have 14 questions—numbered 15-28. The Readings 3 all begin with Question 29. This means that the readings can be mixed and matched to provide a number of different tests. For example, you can do Reading 1A, 2B and 3C or Reading 1 A, 2A and 3A, etc. In the Academic Writing Module there are three Task 1 Writings and three Task 2 Writings. Again you can mix and match these and use a different selection with each Reading test you create. The General Training Module can be used in a similar way, although there are only six readings and two writings in this module. If you are using the book with a teacher, you will need to note carefully which readings you are asked to do for any one practice session. If you are using the book alone, decide on the combination you will do at any one session and keep a note of the combinations as you do them. In this way you will be able to practise more tests. Even though you will probably do one or two of the readings more than once, you will still have valuable practice as you are unlikely to remember all the correct answers. I Make a copy of the listening answer sheet on page 140 to write your answers on.
