Upon returning to Tanzania, he joined the audit firm of Cooper Brothers (later known as Coopers and Lybrand and now Price- WaterhouseCoopers) where he rose to become the ‘Managing Partner and Chairman, Dr. Mengi is the Founder, Owner and Execu- tive Chairman of IPP Limited and IPP institute of Technology and innovation. IPP has interests in print media, famous for The Guardian, Nipashe and other newspapers; and for electronic media (ITV, East Africa and Capital televisions and radio stations). Under IPP group is also Bonite Bottlers, a leading bottler of Coca Cola beverages and Kili- manjaro bottled water. Dr. Mengi has interests in mining, oil and gas, CNG, pharmaceuticals, large scale horticulture, Automobiles (assembly of elec- tric vehicles), Cement and other manufacturing sectors. Dr. Mengi has held several public positions including: Chairperson of Tanzania Standard Newspapers; Commissioner of the Salaries Review Commission; Chairman of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors Tanzania (NBAA); Chairman of the National Environment ‘Management Council of Tanzania (NEMC); Chairman of the Tanzania Chapter of the Com- monwealth Press Union (CPU); Board Director of LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Develop- ment International); Commissioner of Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS); Chairman of the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CT! Chairman of the East African Business Council; Chairman of ICC Tanzania (a National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce); and Director of the Board of The Commonwealth Busi- ness Council.
