TheJeanMonnetCenterofExcellence“ResearchonCrucialIssuesofEuropean Integration”wasestablishedin2015afterhavingbeenselectedforco-fundingbythe ERASMUS+ Jean Monnet Action Program. It was hosted by the Institute of InternationalRelationsandEuropeanIntegrationoftheDepartmentofInternational andEuropeanStudies(IDEA)attheUniversity ofMacedonia, Greece,directedby ProfessorandDeanIliasKouskouvelis. The main purpose of the Center was to conduct research on topical and crucial issuesofEuropeanintegrationinfiveresearchaxes: 1. TheEuropeanUnionintheInternationalSystem:SecurityandDefense 2. EuropeanEconomicGovernance 3. EconomicGrowthoftheEuropeanUnion 4. ConstitutionalValues,Rights,andCitizenshipintheEuropeanUnion 5. Research,Education,andYouthPoliciesintheEuropeanUnion Each axis had 3 research projects. Overall, 38 researchers participated in the respective 15 research projects, most of them from the University of Macedonia, somefromtheAristotleUniversityofThessaloniki,andsomefromotheruniversities andresearchcentersinGreeceandinotherMemberStates. The research was supported by researchers’ study visits in EU institutions, international organizations, and research institutes and the organization of 18 Round Table Discussions and Conferences on the aforementioned topics with v vi AbouttheJeanMonnetCenterofExcellenceattheUniversityofMacedonia,Greece guest speakers. In addition, three summer academies for the EU Area of Freedom, SecurityandJustice,aseminar,andawebinaronhatespeechwerealsoorganized. Moreover,the“ObservatoryofEUConstitutionalValues”was establishedwith its mainaimtoreportandcomment onrelevantEUlegislationandcase law.Noneof this would have been possible without the Erasmus+/Jean Monnet Action co-funding arrangements, which contributed significantly in the extroversion and enhancementoftheCenter’sresearch.Moreinformationcanbeseenatthewebsite oftheJeanMonnetCenterofExcellence:jmcexcellence.uom.gr.
