Objective. To evaluate the effect of acupuncture on endemic skeletal fluorosis (ESF) through the randomized controlled trial.
Methods.Ninety-ninecasesweredividedintothetreatmentgroup(68cases)andthecontrolgroup(31cases)randomly.Normal
acupuncturecombinedwithelectroacupuncturewasusedintreatmentgroup,whileCaltratewithvitaminDtabletswereapplied
incontrolgroup.After2courses,theVAS,urinaryfluoride,serumcalcium,andserumphosphatewereevaluatedbeforeandafter
treatment.Results.Bothofthesetwomethodscouldrelievepaineffectivelyandtheeffectofacupuncturewasbetter(𝑃 < 0.05).
Intreatmentgroup,thecontentofurinaryfluorideaftertreatmentwashigherthanbefore(𝑃<0.05),whilethecontentofserum
calciumandphosphatewaslower(𝑃<0.05).Conclusion.Theeffectofacupunctureonrelievingpainandpromotingdischargeof
urinaryfluorideisbetterthanthatofwesternmedicine.Acupuncturecanreducethecontentofserumcalciumandphosphate.
