September 20, 1968 Mr,Ralph Goldstone £81 Boylston St. Bostoh, Mass. 02116 Deer Ralphs It really was refreshing to talk with you when I was in Boston. I was very distraught from business argu¬ ments. It was a real plessere to have seen what a fine library you have and what interesting items you handle along with your numismatic business. Here is the situation on the items we talked about. Valentine*s pamphlet on fractional currency I do not have in the Boyd printing but do have in the second printing by Mehl. Therefore, send it to me. You had the Coin Book by Homans with an l8?$ date on the title and mine is 18?2. Since I collect every edition, I would like you to send that to me to see if there is any difference. I do not have the pamphlet by Lee of California Souvenir Gold. I would like very much for you to send me your Parmelee and I can have mine rebound and sent to you. I like to have these in original bindings and maybe you would do me that favor. I find that I have two Allender scales but do not have the later one which lacks the $3 piece. You have a nice one and I would like you to price it end send it. As to your other Allender scales, I can have a machin¬ ist make brass weights for them, if you want me to do it, as thst would make them much more saleable. If you send me the scales then I could ascertain the proper counterbalance and develop that project. Page 2 September 20, 1968 Mr. Ralph Goldstone I am enclosing a check for 2£.00 for the test scale which I took with me." There were two additional scales which were on your window sill and X wondered whether these were for American coins. If so I would be interested. I decided that the Italian scale was out of my field end although it was beautiful I should not expand In that direction. As I told you when I was in Boston, I will pay you in money for the things I buy or will be glad to send you thinps in exchange - like Colonial currency or coins. I fully realize you are in business to make a living and expect you to have a reasonable benefit in any exchanges. Kindest regards. Sincerely yours. ERIC P. DOWD (1966) 523-0250 November 4, 1968 Mr. Eric Newman Edison Brothers Stores, Inc. Four Hundred Washington Street St. Louis, Missouri Dear Eric: I have been trying to reach Ralph Goldstone for you and today was our lucky day. I finally talked to him this morning. He says that he will be in the hospital Wednesday morning for X-rays but will probably only be detained there for a few hours. He will then contact me at our office and let me know where you can reach him later during the time that you will be in Boston. He did not want to give me his home number as he says that his wife is not well and would not remember if you did call him. See you on Thursday. Very truly yours RING AND COHEN Secretary to Jordan L.
