Source: Texas Education Agency Health Profiles 2009 Page 5 2009 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a random telephone San Antonio MSA Population 2009 survey of state residents aged 18 and older in households with telephones. The Atascosa 44,633 (BRFSS) is a state-based surveillance system, administered by the Department of Bandera 20,560 State Health Services in Texas, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Bexar 1,651,448 Control and Prevention (CDC). Comal 114,525 Guadalupe 121,432 BRFSS data is collected for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) rather than Kendall 34,053 individual counties. The San Antonio (MSA) in 2009 includes an eight county Medina 44,728 region with a total population of 2,072,128 (see table). The BFRSS survey Wilson 40,749 sampled 807 individuals in 2009. Because of this relatively small sample size for Total 2,072,128 the MSA the local estimates are not as accurate as the national estimates and may result in over or under reporting of health behaviors in San Antonio. Sample size for African Americans is too small to report for San Antonio MSA.
