Financial statement analysis is important to boards, managers, government, researchers, lenders and others who make decisions about the financial health of the regional health authorities. Since the number of regional health authorities was reduced from 17 to nine in April 2003, financial information from 1 997 to 2007 is reported on an aggregate basis only. The comparative analysis focuses on the following aspects of the financial statements: • Statement of Financial Position • Statement of Operations • Schedule of Expenses by Object • Financial Indicators This report covers two important vehicles that are commonly used to convey information to users of financial reports: • Financial Ratio Analysis This is a v aluable tool for understanding financial statements. It consists of determining certain relationships between financial statement items and comparing the results with those of prior years, other health authorities and their averages.
