Editor’s welcome don’t know whether it’s the heat or some unknown force that’s to blame but it seems everywhere I look at the moment, changes are afoot. Some I think we all saw coming... the Prime Minister being a case in point, but some closer to home have left me struggling to come to terms with life as I now know it. I'm talking about the fact that for the past 17 years; my husband has been a charcoal champion through and through. I’m lucky in that he’s never subjected me to a singed sausage in all his barbecuing years, but it does take a bit of an age to heat up, and I may have dropped a few suggestions about moving to the dark side; but lo and behold even I wasn’t fully expecting the radical change of heart which has so clearly taken place as here we are excitedly expecting our new arrival, in chrome! ‘I can’t think of anything better than pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself in a new experience’ Our gas oven, as my dad calls it (surely, it’s not real barbecuing if there are no coals?) will I hope bring even more opportunities for eating al fresco. To quickly fire up the burners and be sizzling a skewer within minutes is a joyful prospect with two small children and the summer holidays coming up. A chance encounter with the chaps from Socal BBQ shop in i y ie Anewera of barbecuing has entered our household Southampton at an event recently confirmed that we would in fact still be called bbq-ers even if our griddle was ignited with the ‘g word’, and I feel one of their workshops might make a great gift for my first-timer. Which got me thinking about what is now our lead feature. How, no matter how set in your ways you are, sometimes you can really surprise yourself and others by being open-minded and trying something new. If youre fancying a change this summer, then one of our top experience days ideas might just scratch that itch. Okay, it might not be as drastic as buying a new barbecue (I joke of course), but I’m sure learning a new skill or craft, having a go at driving a super car or taking to the skies on a Spitfire flight will ignite a fire in your belly you may have assumed had been fully extinguished. Even Boris I assume will be looking around for new inspiration when it comes toa career change, and I can’t think of anything better than pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself in anew experience. I'd love to hear about what you've been changing this month so do feel free to share your experiences with me @elizabethkirbyed.
