GRAND MASTER A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF OUR GRAND MASTER M.W.Bro.RaymondS.J.DanielswasborninOrillia, Ontario, wherehe attendedpublic andhigh school. Atanearlyage, musical studies enabled him to become an organist and choirmaster serving at several churches in southern Ontario. He is a graduate ofWilfrid Laurier University with a degree in music and history and holds diplomas from the Royal Conservatory ofMusic, Toronto, and Trinity College ofMusic, London, England. Hisprofessionallifewasspentasateacher,conductor,composer and keyboard performer. For twenty-three years he taught music and historyatEastwoodCollegiateinKitchener,wherehehelpedestablishthe Arts Program. In 1991 he was awarded theK-W Arts Council Award for Music inrecognition ofartistic achievement in the community. Daniels was initiated into Freemasonry, passed and raised in his father's lodge, OrilliaNo. 192, Orillia, in 1959. He served as Worshipful Master ofNewHopeLodgeNo.279,Cambridge(nowMysticTieLodgeNo.279), and was the founding WorshipfulMasterofNew Light Lodge No. 744, a daylight lodge institutedinWaterlooDistrict in2001. He is amemberby affiliationofseverallodges, andhasbeenaccordedHonoraryMembership in others. Between 1999 and 2002 he served as Secretaryto the Lodge of Instruction Team with M.W. Bro. C. Edwin Drew, the Custodian ofthe Work. Daniels was elected Grand Junior Warden 2000-2001, and was appointed to the Board of General Purposes in 2001, and subsequently electedin2003 and2005,whereheservedasChairmanoftheMembership ResourcesCommitteeandtheCommitteeonMasonicEducation. Heisthe GrandRepresentativetotheGrandLodgeofQuebec. Danielswaselected totheofficeofDeputyGrandMasterattheAnnualCommunicationinJuly 2007 and installed and invested as Grand Master on July 16, 2009. Daniels is amemberofseveralAppendantand Concordantbodies inboth the York Rite and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He is Past PrincipaloftheKitchenerChapterNo. 117,RoyalArchMasons,PastMost Wise Sovereignofthe GuelphChapterRoseCroix andPast SeniorGrand Deacon ofthe Grand Council ofAllied Masonic Degrees ofCanada. He wascoronetedHonoraryInspector-General33°SupremeCouncilofCanada in2005 andwas inductedintotheRoyalOrderofScotland in2003.
