Absか'act.--Goniothalamuselegans Ast，pr eviously known from Annam，is reported from northeastem and
eastem Thailand.百lespecies is described and i1Iustrated.
τ'hef rrst report of Goniothalamus in Thailand，li sted 9s pecies (CRAIB，1 925). Recently，
21 species were reported (BYGRAVE，1 997). Goniothalamus elegans Ast，f rom ea取 mand
north-eastem Thailand，is an ew record for Thailand.
Goniothalamus elegans Ast，Bu ll. Soc. Bo .tFrance 85 (1938) 52 and Fl. Gen. de l'Indo-
chine Supplement (1938) 97 and Fig. 8，1 -6 (p. 96). Figure 1.
Evergreen treelet about 2m high; bark glabrous，b rown; branchlets s回 ight，brown，
densely rusty puberulous，b ecoming sparsely rusty puberulous to glabrous when older.
Leaves simple，di stichous; blades lanceolate，th in; apex acute，ba se acute; green above，p a1e
green below; young blades densely rusty puberulous on both sides，e specia11y ventra11y，
older blades sparsely rusty puberulous，es pecially on the ventra1 midrib and nerves; midrib
grooved above，ra ised below; secondary ne 14--15pairs，fi ne，in distinct above，ob scure

below，cu rving and anastomosing ne themargin，fi ner venation reticulate; 12-15 x3 -4

cm. Petioles dorsally grooved，s parsely rusty puberulous，4- -5m ml ong. Flowers illary，

solitary; pedicels about 4 mml ong，d ensely rusty puberulous，w ith 4 scale-like，g reen
bracts at the base，1 -2 mml ong. Sepals suborbicular，co riaceous，sh ortly acute at the apex;
fmely rusty puberulous outside，gl abrous inside，gr eenish; 7m ml ong，6 m mb road. Petals
6，c oriaceous，g reenish-yellow; outer 3，e lliptic，a pex acute，m edia11y keeled and brown
sericeous outside，b rown velutinous inside except at the base，1. 5x 0 .9 cm; inner 3s imilar
to the outer 3，bu t smaller，1 2 x6 m m，un ited. Stamens numerous，2 m ml ong，co nnectives
convex. Pistils severa1， vertically grooved; stigma claviform，c analiculate，w arty toward
apex; style line釘，4mml ong; ovary cylindric，gl abrous; ovule 1，b asal. Monocarps 5-10，
ellipsoid，gl abrous，g reen becoming orange when ripe，1. 5 x1 c m; stalks 5m ml ong，S eed
1，e llipsoid，te sta brown，e ndosperm ruminate.

and secondary nerves ventrally. The stigmas are claviform.
