Description:
When the former first officer of the Donna’s Sunrise finally awakens, he has no idea where he is and very little idea of what he has been through. The dehydration, starvation, and abuses by the sea had all but destroyed him, but fortunately and miraculously, he was spotted drifting and unconscious by the sympathetic captain of a sympathetic ship.

As Anderson’s health is restored so are the details of why he was out alone on the sea. The true horrors of what took place on the island where the rest of his shipmates and captain were still stranded all came back to him. However, despite how he pleaded that all he had told the captain was truthful, his story was not believed. The part about the men seemed to make sense, just not how they came to be in the situation they were in. Rather than depart immediately to attempt a rescue as Anderson wanted, the captain chose to make port as he had originally been intending. In Saint-Lucie parts of this man’s story was told to another captain who strangely enough volunteered to go and search for these men. It wasn’t until Anderson was on board this new ship that he begins to understand the motivation behind the captain’s generosity. It was the same captain and same ship who had begged for help from Anderson’s captain not so long ago and he was still holding the grudge because of the refusal of that help.

Again, in painstaking detail Anderson relates the tragic events that led to the wreck of the Donna’s Sunrise, but the captain finds his story unbelievable and assumes that Anderson is suffering some form of insanity. Biased by their captain, the crew offers Anderson no friendship and Anderson is left to wrestle with the impending doom by himself. Only after Goliath begins to cause destruction does Captain Huntley finally understand what Anderson had been trying to tell him. Once the crew discovers that not only are they stranded just like Anderson’s crew, but that their captain knew of this terrible creature days in advance, it is up to Anderson’s captain to maintain the peace if Huntley is to remain alive and a chance for escape is to be had.

Sacrifices are to be made if rescue is to be more than a hope. Heinous terrible decisions must be made if the plan is to have any chance of succeeding. The men on the island wait uncertain of their future while Anderson once again battles the sea and all that lives underneath its waters in an effort to save the men he cares so much about.

Goliath also waits out there under the water. Always there and always seeming to know.
