Description:Since its founding in 1969, the Gloucester Fishermens Wives Association has been a powerful force for the conservation of New Englands precious fishing grounds and heritage. The Wives have helped improve safety standards on US vessels create the first subsidized health plan for fishermen establish a marine sanctuary at Stellwagen Bank and protect the health of the oceans and the future of the fisheries that feed us all. Food is the centerpiece of any Wives gathering and, as the women know, it is food that sustains, not only the lives of activists, but those of their families and the stalwart fishng crews who labor at sea.
