The grant enabled us to call together two meetings ofscholars studyingthis industry: an organizingmeet ing, in May 1991, and a conference, The Globalization of the Gar ment Industry in the Pacific Rim, to present final reports, in May 1992. In addition, the grant supported research assistance for the University ofCaliforniafaculty (Bonacicl:L, Cheng, and Ong). The grant was administered through tIle UCLA Center for Pacific Rim Studies, whose able staff (including Fauolegogo Tanielu, Sue Fan,andScottGruber) didallthe organizingworkforbothmeetings.
