ince time immemorial brewing
beer has been considered a typi-
cally Bavarian craft. Bavarian beer
is synonymous with barley, hops,
malt and water, the only admissible
ingredients according to the Purity
Law passed by Duke Albrecht IV in
1487, the world’s oldest food law; 4
Munich breweries have strictly
adhered to it to the present day.
The most famous brewery is the
Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589.

long-standing tradition. Together
they produce more than 6 million
